Pink in the Park
The Racers continuing partnership with the Racers Charities is evident every night throughout the Racers home schedule. General Manager, Joey Arrietta, takes a break in the action in the bottom of the 4th inning to start "pitching pink." The nightly campaign is designed to collect just one dollar at time toward the Akron General Muffins for Mammograms Program. This program has developed into a signature moment that has now become tradition at Firestone Stadium the past 17 years. The AGMC program provides funding for mammograms for uninsured men and women in our community.
The money collected is presented at the WQMX Bosom Buddies event held each year in October. The Racers through their partneship with the Racers Charities has raised over $150,000 toward the fight against breast cancer in our community.
The Racers designate two games each summer to highlight their commitment to the community-wide breast cancer inititative. The "Pink in the Park Nights" encourages fans to wear pink to help support the fight against breast cancer. The Racers game-worn pink jerseys are auctioned at the end of the season with the proceeds, once again, going to the mammogram program.
