Draftee Update 5/28/12

The Akron Racers selected six players in the March 7, NPF College Draft. Debuting from the Akron Racers this season, only at www.akronracers.org, is a special feature called “Draftee Update” where we will check in on our six draftees and see how their college seasons are progressing. Let’s take a look . . .
Akron Racers Draft Pick #3, Lexy Bennett, #51, Shortstop, University of Texas
Lexy Bennett and the Texas Longhorns played the Oregon Ducks in the Austin Super Regional and lost the series 2-1. Game one, was a 4-2 win as Bennett hit 1-for-3 with a single and scored once. The second game was a close 5-4 loss in eight innings. Bennett batted 2-for-3 with an RBI double and scored one run. The final game was a 10-6 loss to knock Texas out of the NCAA post-season. Bennett hit 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk and scored twice. Although, Bennett had a great series batting 5-for-9, it was not enough to get her Longhorns into the next round as the Ducks move on.
Akron Racers Draft Pick #7, Hillary Bach, #10, Pitcher, Arizona State University
Hillary Bach and the Arizona State Sun Devils played Louisiana in the Super Regional. They won the series 2-1. The Sun Devils lost the first game by a shut out score of 6-0 as Bach had the game off. Game 2, Bach started and lead her team to a 9-2 win. Bach pitched seven innings, letting up two runs (one earned) on eight hits, as she struck out one and walked two. The final game was a 8-0 win in six innings. Bach also did not pitch in this game. Bach’s record is now at 21-1 and the Sun Devils will play the Oregon Ducks in the next round.
Akron Racers Draft Pick # 11, Amanda Chidester, #3, Third Baseman, University of Michigan
Amanda Chidester and the Michigan Wolverines played the Alabama Crimson Tide in their Super Regional and went on to lose both games they played by scores of 4-1 and 4-3. Game one, Chidester batted 0-for-3 with a strikeout and in the second game; Chidester hit 1-for-2 with a solo home run and walked once. The Wolverines are out of NCAA competition as Chidester ended her senior season with a team leading .347 batting average.
Akron Racers Draft Pick #14, Alicia Herron, #24, Shortstop, Ohio State University
Alicia Herron and the Ohio State Buckeyes are done for the season.
Akron Racers Draft Pick # 15, Jen Mineau, #13, Pitcher, Fordham University
Jen Mineau and the Fordham Rams are done for the season.
Akron Racers Draft Pick # 19, Jamia Reid, # 3, Outfielder, University of California, Berkeley
Jamia Reid and the California Golden Bears played Washington in their Super Regional and won both games easily by scores of 5-0 and 2-0. Game one was a tough one for Reid as she batted 0-for-4 with an RBI and struck out once. In game two, Reid hit 1-for-4 with a bunt single. The Golden Bears move on to Oklahoma City to play LSU on Thursday in the next round of the Women’s College World Series.
