Brianna Turang and the Sooners won twice against Oklahoma State to capture the 10th Big 12 title in Oklahoma’s school history. Turang did her part in the game by reaching third on an error and then scored a run the next play. Turang also made the last  out of Senior Day for Oklahoma in the Sooner’s second victory against the Oklahoma State Cowgirls. Turang had an RBI single and a run scored.   Following the capture of the Big 12 title, Oklahoma was named the No. 1 seed for the 2013 NCAA Championship and will face Marist College in the Norman Regional Round on Friday, May 17.

Brianna Cherry and the Ragin Cajuns had an up and down last week in the Sun Belt Championship. Cherry’s eighth-inning hit to drive in the winning run during the first round matchup against Florida International University last Wednesday helped the Cajuns edge out the Panthers 8-7. Cherry finished the game with 2 runs, a hit, a walk, and an RBI. In the next SBC game against South Alabama, Cherry was quieted as both teams took no hitters into extra innings with South Alabama picking up the 1-0 win in eight innings. The loss also ended Louisiana Lafayette’s win streak at 23. But Cherry bounced back in a big way for the Cajuns the following day. In the first of two games played on Friday, May 10, Louisiana Lafayette pummeled Florida Antlantic University 15-0. Cherry was 2-2 at the plate, had an RBI, and finished the game with a career-high four runs. Later in the day, the Cajuns defeated top-seeded Western Kentucky 3-2 and forced a rematch between the two teams on Saturday, May 11. Cherry was held hitless, but was still able to drive in a run when she came up with the bases loaded in the 3rd inning. However, the Ragin Cajuns were eliminated from the Sun Belt Championship in the rematch against WKU, losing 7-4. Cherry finished the day with 2 hits and an RBI. Louisiana Lafayette will now head to Baton Rouge for the Regional Round of the 2013 NCAA Championship. They will play their first game against Northwestern State University on Saturday, May 17. The Baton Rouge Regionals could feature an Akron Racers match-up as Rachele Fico and the LSU Tigers will be hosting the round in Baton Rouge.
