Norris Returns to the Racers: Akron’s Ace Set to Lead Youthful Squad
Akron, OH – Akron Racers’ GM, Joey Arrietta, announced today that Lisa Norris, will return to the team for her fifth season of play. That makes seven, yes seven, pitchers who will share the circle for the Racers this summer.
“I’m excited and thankful to return to the Akron Racers for another season. I’m really looking forward to this season,” remarked Norris.
The Racers grabbed Rachele Fico with the 1st pick in the 2013 NPF Senior Draft and then picked Tennessee’s Ivy Renfroe with the 8th pick overall. Both players will participate in the 2013 WCWC Regional Tournaments this coming weekend.
“I took a long, hard look at injuries, the adjustment to the pro game, player’s availability and just the fact that these young pitchers have to face the best hitters in the world several nights in a row. Our philosophy will be “win the inning, “commented Arrietta. “If each of them can do their part and pass the ball when necessary, this could be a great year.”
“Lisa Norris was the final piece. We need her to step up and be the rock and the leader of this team in the circle,” remarked Arrietta. “The confidence we need as a team will come from what we can establish in the circle. We are putting the ball in her hand,”
Norris is 38-32 in four seasons with the Racers and the workhorse all four seasons. “Lisa has always stepped up to take the ball,” remarked Arrietta. Her very first start as a professional player resulted in a perfect game. Since that game, she has picked up Pitcher of the Year honors in 2010 in a league which boasts the likes of Cat Osterman and Monica Abbott.
