SCHLOPY COMMITS FOR A FIFTH SEASON WITH THE RACERS
Diminutive Georgia grad to anchor Akron outfield in 2015
Akron, OH- Akron Racers GM, Joey Arrietta announced today that Taylor Schlopy has committed to Akron for her fifth season of play in a Racers uniform. Schlopy, the Racers first selection and the second overall in the 2011 NPF Draft, scored 28 runs and stole 13 bases as the team’s leadoff hitter.
“Taylor makes things happen for our team,” noted Arrietta. “She has a keen eye for the ball, drawing 20 walks in 2014. Her on-base-average is a key component of her game.”
Schlopy started all but one game in 2014 blasting six homeruns, second only to Nerissa Myers (9), the 2014 NPF Offensive Player of the Year, for the Racers. Taylor added five doubles to her game while posting a .329 on-base-percentage.
Defensively, Schlopy has taken on the portable fence at Firestone Stadium with a vengeance containing five would-be homeruns from exiting the field. Her speed and ability to track balls provides the Racers with a solid backstop in centerfield.
The Racers open their 2015 season on the road against the Rebellion on May 30th but return to Akron for their home opener, June 11-14, against Rebellion now playing in their second season in the NPF.
