Chicago Bandits win on June 9th negated, PA Rebellion wins protest

Nashville, TN – June 9, 2015 - The league office of National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) announced today that the game on Tuesday, June 9 between the Chicago Bandits and Pennsylvania Rebellion is now considered a halted game and will be resumed on July 5 in Rosemont.  The decision was made because game officials did not institute the tiebreaker rule properly and a game protest was ultimately filed to the league office.

The game, which took place in Washington, Pa., appeared to conclude after 11 innings in a 7-3 Chicago victory, but the contest was protested in the 11th inning by the PA Rebellion.
The protest was based on the fact that the NPF has a tie-breaker rule in place that was not followed.  The rule dictates that in the top of the 10th inning of a tied ballgame each team must begin the inning with a runner placed at second base.
The defined inning of rule implementation can be found in the NPF Game Rule Revisions and is an extension of Rule 6.15 of the NCAA Rulebook that is the standard competition governance of NPF play, When the rule was not implemented by game umpires, it triggered grounds for protest, under Rule 7.2.
Upon review of the situation, NPF Commissioner, Cheri Kempf assembled the unaffected members of the League Management Committee to serve as the protest committee. Those members, upon thorough review of the information, voted unanimously to return the game to the point at which the NPF Tie-breaker rule should have been implemented. That decision triggers Rule 6.17 defining a Halted Game.
The June 9 game will now be resumed under the guidelines of the Halted Game rule and the game will resume in the top of the 10th inning with the score tied 3-3. Chicago will begin the 10th innings with its final out of the ninth inning placed on second base.
The game will take place prior to the next meeting between Bandits and Rebellion, which is scheduled for July 5 in Rosemont, Ill. The halted game will begin at 2:45 p.m. and will be followed by the regularly scheduled game at 3:05 p.m.
