Racers Come Up Short 1-0 to Charge

COLUMBUS, Ohio --

The Akron Racers (18-20) came up short 1-0 against the Dallas Charge (15-24) in a defensive duel at Berliner Park in Columbus, Ohio.

Sarah Pauly (Texas A&M Corpus Christi) delivered a strong performance in the pitching circle for the Racers with seven strikeouts and started the game with three and 1/3 hitless innings. The Racers failed to deliver at the plate, which ultimately led to the team’s demise.

“This wasn’t a game where they won, its one where we lost,” Racers manager Brian Levin explained. “It doesn’t just take great pitching to win a game, its great hitting as well.”

The two teams fought fire with fire and held the score at 0-0 for the first five innings of the ballgame.

Leadoff batter Jill Barrett (Tulsa) jumped on the Charge starter Morgan Melloh early when she slashed a leadoff double into left center. However, the Racers offense could not capitalize on the early runner in scoring position and failed to score.

The Racers displayed consecutive half innings of seamless defense with three up, three down in the top of the second and third. However, the Akron’s offense fell short against the Charge’s defense and left runners on base in both appearances

Dallas chipped away at the Racers defense and pulled ahead in the top of the sixth inning when first baseman Kaitlyn Richardson singled down the left field line. Yamada advanced to second base on the error and Renada Davis scored an unearned run for the Charge.

Morgan Melloh (2-6) took the win on the mound and Pauly (9- 4) took the loss.
