AKRON, OH— Akron Racers shortstop Sami Fagan’s (Missouri) remarkable rookie campaign is winding down, but not before she could secure her fourth NPF Rookie of the Week title of the season for the week spanning from August 1- August 7, where she hit .529 while knocking in five RBI.
Fagan’s four NPF Rookie of the Week honors plus her one NPF Offensive Player of the Week title mean that she has been recognized in half of the weekly honors over the course of the 2016 season.
Along with her .529 batting average and five RBI, Fagan also scored five runs of her own, carved out nine hits, smashed a pair of two-run home runs and accumulated a .941 slugging percentage.
Her week started with a two-homerun game against the Dallas Charge on Monday Aug. 1 where she went 2-4 and tallied three RBI and two runs scored. She then followed that with a three-hit performance on Tuesday night.
On Friday, Fagan went 1-3 with an RBI, a run scored and a walk in the Racers 8-1 rout of the Scrap Yard Dawgs. She finished the week incredibly strong with a 3-3 performance, which included a double, an RBI and two runs scored.
With four games left in the Racers season, Fagan is well on her way to earning 2016 NPF Rookie of the Year honors as she leads all rookies in batting average, RBI, runs scored, hits, doubles, total bases, slugging percentage and on-base percentage.
The Racers final four games will all come against the front-running USSSA Pride, where Fagan and her teammates will be vying for playoff positioning.
