AKRON RACERS LOOK TO STAY HOT AT HOME

Akron, OH – The Akron Racers started their season with a three week stretch of away games. Upon returning to Firestone Stadium, it became apparent that playing on their home field was the push the Racers needed to dominate in the NPF.

Moving from fifth in the league to holding the second-place spot and winning all three of their home stand series, the Firestone Stadium based games seemed to get the Racers (13-10) rolling. In the span of two weeks, the team won their series with the Beijing Shougang Eagles (3-0), Chicago Bandits (2-1), and Texas Charge (2-1), falling to the USSSA Pride in their only game 3-2. Before heading on the road again, the Racers were able to place themselves on the leaderboard in numerous categories and walk away with a 7-3 home record.  Akron leads the NPF with 31 home runs, 115 runs scored and 108 RBI.

“We love our fans here, Joey and the staff,” Thomas commented on their hot home streak. “They all put in so much work, so we know that makes it a little bit easier for everyone here at Firestone.”

The Racers are now ready for their second homestand of the season, after a quick two-game road trip to Chicago resulted in a sweep of the Bandits.  Starting Friday, July 7, Akron will host nine games in six days, including five games featuring the Racers at Firestone Stadium.

Not only do the games bring excitement to the city, but the promotions raise the energy throughout the stadium for every game played. Akron hosts the Chicago Bandits for two games to begin the homestand on Friday, July 7 and Saturday, July 8, both games are set for 7:05 p.m. first pitches.  On Friday, the Racers will be hosting First Responders Night presented by the Howe Rd, Chick-Fil-A, where all police officers, firefighters, EMT’s and members of the Armed Forces are granted entrance for free and their guests receive a discounted $5 ticket.  On that same night, there will also be an opportunity to take a trip to Firestone Stadium’s Margaritaville, where fans can purchase a $10 ticket to the game and get their first drink for free.  On Saturday, it’s Mystery Bobblehead Night, where the first 100 fans to the game receive a surprise bobblehead.

On Sunday, July 9, Firestone Stadium will host the Scrap Yard Dawgs from The Woodlands, Texas against the Beijing Shougang Eagles at 4:05 p.m.  It’s also Akron Zoon Night where experts will come and speak on the animal kingdom.

Monday, July 10 through Wednesday, July 12 the Racers will host both the Dawgs and Eagles in three straight days of doubleheaders.  On Monday, the Dawgs will face Beijing at 5:05 p.m., with Akron facing the Dawgs following the conclusion of that game.  Throughout the night it will be Ronald McDonald House Night presented by the Rubber City McDonald’s.

On Tuesday, the Racers celebrate Wheelie’s Sweet 16 Birthday with a doubleheader first against Beijing at 5:05 p.m. and then against the Dawgs following that game.  All of Wheelie’s mascot buddies will be at Firestone Stadium to help Akron’s favorite cheetah celebrate this milestone in style.

On the final day of the homestand, the Racers take on the Eagles at 12:05 p.m. For that game, get a special $5 ticket that includes a hot dog, chips and a drink.  It’s also Pepsi Kids Day where kids can win special prizes and get the chance to run the bases after the game.  Following the Racers’ game, the Dawgs will take on Beijing at 7:05 p.m. for Social Media Night with special social media themed fun and games throughout the night.
