SHELLIE ROBINSON NAMED NPF PLAYER OF THE WEEK

AKRON, OH – Akron Racers outfielder Shellie Robinson earned the coveted NPF Player of the Week honor for the week of Monday, July 3 through Sunday, July 9, the league announced Monday.

Robinson continued her offensive tear this past week, cumulating seven hits in 11 at bats, for a .636 batting average. By adding two walks as well, her on-base percentage was pushed up to .643 for the week. Robinson ranked in the top five in the NPF in nine offensive categories during the week, including batting average, doubles, runs scored, stolen bases, slugging and on-base percentage.

The USC-Upstate alum totaled three extra base hits and six RBI in the four games that she played for the Racers on the week, all against the Chicago Bandits.  Robinson set the stage for her week in the very first at bat on Monday, July 3, Robinson blasted a grand slam in the top of the first inning to guide Akron to a 12-7 victory.

On the Fourth of July, Robinson reached base safely in each of her three plate appearances with a walk, single, and double. She managed to score two of Akron’s four runs on their way to a 4-2 victory, completing the two-game sweep of the Bandits in Chicago.

In the Racers’ two games at home, Robinson scored or drove in four of Akron’s six total runs, adding three hits in only four at bats. In addition to her excellence at the plate, Robinson also impressed in the field. Shellie saw time at both center and left field this week, committing no errors and racking up 12 put outs including multiple running and diving plays in the outfield for Akron.

Robinson earned her first Player of the Week award of 2017 this past week, but has been outstanding all season for the Racers. Currently half way through the season, Robinson leads the league with six home runs, and ranks in the top five in the NPF in RBI (19), runs scored (16), batting average (.400), and slugging percentage (.767).

Robinson will look to stay hot, and continue her dominating breakout season for the Akron Racers in the second half of the year. Akron will host the Scrap Yard Dawgs and Beijing Shougang Eagles at Firestone Stadium this week, before traveling to Florida to take on the USSSA Pride and the Eagles this weekend.
