AKRON, OH – This weekend the Akron Racers host the Texas Charge in a crucial two-game series to close out the 2017 NPF regular season at Firestone Stadium.  The USSSA Pride (37-9), Scrap Yard Dawgs (31-18) and Chicago Bandits (25-21) have all locked up their spot in the NPF Championship Series. Akron (24-24) currently sits in fourth place in the standings, two games ahead of the Charge (22-26), as both teams look to secure the final trip to LSU’s Tiger Park in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
The scenario is simple, with one win over Texas, the Racers will head to the NPF Championship Series, but the Charge make the postseason with two wins.  Akron could also vault into third place by sweeping Texas this weekend, if the Pride also sweep Chicago in their three-game series to close the season.
After splitting their four-game series with the Scrap Yard Dawgs over the last few days, it is clear the Racers are determined on their drive toward the 2017 NPF Championship Series. The Racers swept the Dawgs in a doubleheader on Wednesday, with Shellie Robinson hitting a walk-off three-run home run to win Game 1 7-5 and Akron taking Game 2 7-3 on home runs by Nicole Schroeder and Sam Fischer-Cooke. This weekend the Racers will look to continue their momentum after winning five of their last seven games.
On Saturday, August 12, the first game will take place with a first pitch start time scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with the gates opening at 5:00 pm.  Saturday is also a staple of a Racers season with Pink the Park Night in support of the fight against breast cancer.  Numerous items will be up for auction, including special game worn pink jerseys, to support the Akron Racers Charities contributions to the Bosom Buddies and Muffins for Mammograms programs.  It is also Ladies’ Night at Firestone Stadium.  Vendors like Tupperware, LuLaRoe and Thirty-One will be present and there will be special raffles and giveaways just for the ladies in attendance.
Sunday’s home finale will be Fan Appreciation Night where we show our gratitude to all of the fans who filled Firestone Stadium throughout the summer.  There will be numerous giveaways to thank fans for their endless support.  It’s also Military Appreciation Night.  All military member get in for free with their Military ID and their friends and family can purchase tickets for $5.
Come out this weekend and watch the Racers battle to get into the NPF Championship Series and for great promotions as the season winds down. For more information or to purchase tickets for the final games, visit the team’s website at or call the Racers ticket office at (330) 376-8188.
