FIRESTONE STADIUM TO HOST AKRON RACERS FOUNDATION’S 2018 AMATEUR EVENT SCHEDULE

HIGH SCHOOL TOURNAMENT ACTION BEGINS, APRIL 6-8; MAC TOURNAMENT RETURNS MAY 9-12
 
Akron, OH -- The Akron Racers Foundation comprehensive development and utilization of historic Firestone Stadium continues with a packed schedule of amateur events featuring the very best and most talented players from around the State. The Foundation schedule includes five varsity high school tournaments, two junior varsity events and six summer travel ball tournaments.
 
Tournament play begins with the Ohio Invitational, April 6-8, featuring 15 competitors ready to kick off the spring season. The Spring Showcase and the JV Jamboree I will be run concurrently, April 13-15. The Rock N’ Fire is slated for April 20-22 followed by the Grand Slam, April 27-29. The JV Jamboree II will run concurrently with the Rock N’ Fire. In all, 86 high school teams will compete in tournament play in April.  These teams will provide fans with a sneak peak at the talented teams emerging from around the state setting the stage for the 2018 OHSAA Girl’s State Softball Tournament, May 31-June 2.
 
The high school Rivalry Series returns for its third season on April 11, 12, 24, 25 and May 7. The complete schedule will be released April 1st.
 
Stepping into May, Firestone Stadium will host the MAC Softball Championship, May 9-12. The Foundation’s affiliation with the MAC’s premier softball event dates back to 2002. This will be the MAC’s 15th appearance at historic Firestone Stadium. 
 
The Firestone Frenzy, (10u, 12u) launches the Foundation’s youth and travel ball events on May 18-20. The annual 
Slam Series I (10u, 12u 14u) will take place, June 6-8, followed by the Slam Series II (16u, 18u) tournament June 15-17.The schedule heats up in July with the Summer Sizzler (10u, 12u, 14u) , July 6-8, with the Stadium Series (12u, 14u) rounding out the tournament schedule, July 13-15. These tournaments will be sanctioned by USA Softball and will include a four-game guarantee. Details regarding registration and payment options are available online.
 
The Summit Shutout, a USA Softball National Qualifier, highlights the summer action at Firestone Stadium. This event is set to send the state’s best entries into the national spotlight.
