AKRON RACERS CHARITIES ANSWERS CHALLENGE OF DEMANDING STADIUM SCHEDULE

Akron, OH---The installation of Eclipse Stabilized Natural Turf in front of the dugouts and behind home plate has begun at historic Firestone Stadium. The Eclipse system is a natural grass surface rooted through a synthetic fiber matrix. The innovated turf can be found in Europe and at nearby Great American Ballpark, home to the Cincinnati Reds.

“I weighed all the options after observing the wear and tear the Stadium took this past season,” noted Joey Arrietta, President of the Akron Racers Charities that provided the funds to renovate the Stadium.

The 2018 amateur schedule includes 15 youth tournaments in addition to the OHSAA Girl’s State Tournament and the MAC Championship. Numerous high school games and All-Star event dot the packed Stadium schedule. The Firestone Stadium is also home to the Akron Racers which plays a 25-game schedule at the historic venue.

“The Akron Racers Charities continues to provide opportunities for young girls and women seeking to learn, grow and play through our “Grassroots to the Pros” initiative.

Akron Racers: The Akron Racers, headquartered in Akron, OH, are the oldest existing team in the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) league, celebrating their 16th Season of Play in 2017. The Racers competed in the Women’s Pro Softball League (WPSL) for two seasons in 1999 and 2000 and in the NPF since 2004. Historic Firestone Stadium is home to the Racers and numerous amateur events at all levels of play.

Akron Racers Foundation: In support of the Akron Racers’ Grassroots to the Pros initiative, the Akron Racers Foundation has acted as the youth education and development organization for the Akron Racers.  Since 2001, the Akron Racers Foundation has conducted numerous high school, travel ball and youth tournaments at Firestone Stadium.  In August of 2017, the Akron Racers Foundation announced the addition of the Racers Youth Fastpitch Organization which began play in the fall of 2017.
